Whilst most of the machine parts have been changed over the years, the origins can be traced back to 1938, when the ride was built as a Moonrocket for John Farrah by R.J Lakin

John Farrah sold the Moonrocket to The Kurzaal in 1946

In 1952, the Moonrocket was removed and scrapped by the park. John Ling purchased the parts and tasked ride manufacturer Maxwell with building a Waltzer from the parts.

In 1954, the parts were reborn as the Atmosphere Creator Waltzer and were presented by John Ling at some of the UK's most prominent Fun Fairs

In 1972, the machine was sold to Son-in-Law Albert Evans (Married to Joan (Ling)) who, along with his son Albert John Evans, catapulted the ride to the forefront of funfair revellers' minds.

Under the ownership of Albert John Evans, the Waltzer has truly lived up to its name and has become the true atmosphere creator of the fair. When the ride is at Hull, punters can expect to see not only a ride, but a light and sound display of the finest

Atmosphere Creator, has the tag line, ‘prepared for peace, ready for war,’ or just dubbed as the war machine.

The machine is constantly improved, with recent years having seen a new chequer plate platform and walkways added in place of the aging wood platform. The ride now operates with over 50 moving heads and a large sound system, earning it the nickname of a nightclub on wheels.

Over the 2025 season, some of the rounding boards have had their artwork changed. It is expected that the machine will receive a makeover through the winter months.
